If you type the word idiot on Google search, you will see Donald Trump.
The House committee held the hearing to discuss whether Google’s search results are politically slanted.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s relatively unscathed testimony to Congress on Tuesday were questions about when someone searches for the word “Idiot,” photos of President Donald Trump appear high in the results.
Speaking in front of the House Judiciary Committee, Pichai explained that the company doesn’t “manually intervene” in search results, and instead search results are based on crawling the content of web pages.
“We provide search today for any time you type in a keyword. We, as Google, have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of their pages in our index, and we take the keyword and match it against the pages and rank them based on over 200 signals,” Pichai said.
Trade talk broke up with no agreement
Last Friday the trade talks between the U.S. and China broke up with no agreement, hours after President Donald Trump more than doubled tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese imports.
Hours earlier, the Trump administration hiked tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports to 25% from 10%, escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington. China’s Commerce Ministry vowed to impose “necessary countermeasures” but gave no details.
Trade war will not benefit the consumers. Now the Chinese manufacturers have to increase their prices to include the additional import tariff. As a result, Walmart will have to raise prices on goods from China and the American consumers will have to pay higher prices. In other words, Trump is making the Americans to pay higher taxes.
At the meantime, China can buy corn and wheat from many other countries at cheaper prices. Now the American farmers are complaining.
The importance of communication
Last Friday, President Trump, realising the importance of communication, announced a new wireless spectrum auction intended to speed the rollout of the next generation of wireless communications networks, a technology the administration views as critical to winning an economic war with China.
Yet Mr. Trump has so far remained silent on whether the United States would issue an order essentially banning Chinese firms like Huawei from building those networks.
President Donald Trump said the United States should not nationalize its 5G network and said private companies should move quickly to deploy the faster next-generation network. Rolling out those networks, in both cities and rural areas, requires essentially rebuilding the nation’s cell networks and switching systems. Over time, the evolution to the new architecture promises to transform how billions of “internet of things” devices — such as autonomous cars and industrial sensors — operate, allowing faster, seamless connectivity.
Democratic FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, along with some tech trade groups, say President Donald Trump’s tariff hike on Chinese goods entering the US will slow the stateside rollout of 5G.
She said the tariffs, more than double overnight, are “a 25% tax on the future of technology.”
She added the tariff hike will have a negative effect on US wireless operators’ plans to build 5G wireless networks and the innovation that’s expected to come from these new networks.
“All the building blocks of 5G wireless and the internet of things — from modems to antennas to semiconductors — are subject to this new tax,” she said. “It’s not good — for consumers, innovation or US leadership.”
What is 5G technology?
5G is the next generation of mobile broadband that will eventually replace, or at least augment, your 4G LTE connection. With 5G, you’ll see exponentially faster download and upload speeds. Latency, or the time it takes devices to communicate with each other wireless networks, will also drastically decrease.
What are the benefits of 5G over 4G? The 5G networks are the next generation of mobile internet connectivity, offering faster speeds and more reliable connections on smartphones and other devices than ever before. 5G will provide extreme speed, better battery life, better connectivity low latency than 4G.
While the US is beginning to develop 5G technology, China has already implemented 5G technology and will soon overtake USA economically.
